Paintings by John Pellew (1903-1993).
Watercolorist John Pellew was born and educated in England. Pellew paints in oil, acrylic and watercolor, but has received
much praise for his watercolors.
Pellew has won several awards during his career including the Allied Artists Gold
Medal for Watercolor, 1951; Gold Medal for Watercolor, Hudson Valley Annual, 1954; Marine Painting Award, Connecticut Watercolor
Society, 1958; the Adolph and Clara Orbig Award and the Henry W. Ranger Purchase Award, National Academy, New York, 1961;
The Butler Award, The American Watercolor Society, New York, 1964; The Syndicate Magazine Gold Medal, Allied Arts of America,
1967; and the Silver Award, The American Watercolor Society, 1970.
During his career Pellew worked as an instructor
in New England and authored three books on painting. He is a member of the National Academy of Design, The Salmagundi Club,
Allied Artists of America and The American Watercolor Society.
